Maria Pougiales-Posey, LPCC

Couples Therapy / Bereavement and Somatic Therapist / Chronic Pain & Illness /PTSD

Maria works with individuals, couples, and families across all stages of life — from teens to adults. She has a passion for helping couples strengthen their relationships by exploring shared goals, needs, and values. With warmth and guidance, she supports partners in rebuilding trust, deepening emotional bonds, and creating a more resilient foundation together. Maria also helps clients navigate challenging personal relationships — whether with friends, family, partners, or coworkers — by focusing on healthy communication, boundary setting, and understanding attachment patterns.

Alongside her work with relationships, Maria provides compassionate support for those coping with grief and loss, as well as individuals facing challenges such as PTSD, chronic pain and illness, trauma, body image concerns, gender identity exploration, anxiety, and depression. Her approach is holistic and flexible, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Regulation, and other evidence-based practices. She tailors each session to the unique needs of her clients, helping them move toward healing and self-discovery.

Grounded in empathy and collaboration, Maria creates a safe and supportive space where clients can process grief, build resilience, strengthen relationships, develop coping strategies, and heal from past trauma.

Maria holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Regis University. She is committed to helping clients reconnect with their inner strengths and move forward with clarity and hope.

Maria is skilled in and holds special certifications in the following areas:

Couples & Family Therapy
Maria’s training in couples therapy includes applying Systemic Therapy to seek to understand the family as a whole system and consider how individual behaviors and interactions impact the entire family unit. She also uses a solution-focused lens to address crises or acute issues the family is facing and to develop immediate solutions.

Bereavement and Grief
Drawing on her hospice care experience, Maria supports both individuals and groups through the pain of loss. She uses an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach to help clients face difficult emotions with compassion, guiding them through grief in ways that foster healing and resilience.

Somatic Therapy
Maria understands the powerful connection between mind and body and partners with clients to unearth emotional layers through somatic, mindfulness-based exercises.

Chronic Pain & Illness
Maria integrates somatic approaches and ACT to help clients cope with chronic pain, illness, or challenging medical diagnoses.

Trauma / PTSD / Sexual Assault
To support trauma recovery, Maria applies Somatic Therapy and mindfulness-based strategies to help clients process intense emotions. She collaborates with clients to improve self-esteem, empower boundary setting, and increase awareness of how past trauma influences present-day behaviors, incorporating psychodynamic approaches as needed.
